Secure Start is a service brought to you by Hollister, an independent, employee-owned global company. We work in both ostomy care and continence care, and for more than 100 years we have been living our mission of making life more rewarding for those who use our products and services.

This presentation is an introduction to the Secure Start Urology Service, which is available at no cost to the NHS, and provides patients with the clinical support and advice needed to gain confidence and independence in patients performing intermittent self-catheterisation.

Regulated by the Care Quality Commission, Secure Start provides a bespoke pathway that is responsive to patients’ needs in order to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
Patients may experience isolation when faced with a daunting procedure, and within this service, our friendly and highly trained customer service team are able to help the patients on their journey to independence, with regular telephone contact during the first week of them performing ISC.
Secure Start from Hollister, began in 2012 as a service to support patients undergoing ostomy surgery. It was created by a team of practicing nurses and recently extended to work with patients experiencing continence issues. We have worked with qualified practicing continence nurses who believe the service will be beneficial to other specialities where continence issues are a fundamental part of the nursing care.

On enrolment by the clinical nurse specialist, patients receive a welcome pack which includes valuable information including a Hydration and UTI Guide. The appointed advisor will call the patient at regular intervals and follow a traffic light system, which acts as an early warning signal and enables timely feedback to the referring nurse for early intervention.
Hollister welcome the opportunity to discuss the Secure Start Urology Service with you. For more information, contact the Secure Start Team at hollister.securestart@nhs.net
